Global Deduplication in NAKIVO Backup & Replication

Special Storage Type

Database entries, VM templates, the OS data and other identical files can consume a lot of space and increase storage costs if you don’t use deduplication appliances as a backup target. NAKIVO Backup & Replication offers a special repository type with a built-in deduplication feature to optimize storage usage.

Storage Space Savings

During the backup process, NAKIVO Backup & Replication scans the data of VMware vSphere VMs, Microsoft Hyper-V VMs, Nutanix AHV VMs, Amazon EC2 instances and physical machines. Any repeated data is deleted and replaced with a reference to the original source and only the deduplicated data is written to the backup repository. For example, NAKIVO Backup & Replication saves OS data only once instead of storing identical files for several VMs. Deduplication enables you to reduce storage capacity requirements by 10 to 30 times.

More Recovery Points

More efficient disk space utilization with Global Deduplication frees up storage capacity for you to store more recovery points per backup. You can choose the grandfather-father-son (GFS) scheme for efficient rotation of recovery points daily, weekly, monthly and yearly.
